| Roll Bar |
Saw pictures of an accident where a Harley ran into the back of a Mog, and the roll bar saved the driver - a good idea! |
| 15" Morgan wheels |
I had problems sourcing decent 14" rubber |
| Toyo 205/50 R888 tires |
These are just so sticky, transformed the car |
| Weber / Edelbrock 500 Carburetor
|
More power for less fuel... RPI do a kit with all the bits to change over from the SU's. The dyno. says there is more power, but it is the mid range you really notice while driving. |
| Edelbrock Inlet Manifold |
To make the Weber work properly |
| K&N filter |
To keep rocks out of the Weber. |
| Piper fast road (270) cam |
RPI supplied and fitted by Graham King, we put her on the rollers after fitting this and at the back wheels we recorded 181 bhp @ 5600rpm. With a standard engine we would expect to see ~120bhp, so she is 50% better than new and I still have to fit some gas flowed heads. |
| J&P Duplex Timing Gear |
A touch noisier than the standard nylon gear( which actually looked ok after 65,000 miles) but I thought that as it all had to come off to change the cam so, what the heck? |
| Rutherford tubular rear damper conversion |
Vastly improved grip, ride and handling over the original lever arms. Lever arms? On a sports car? What were they thinking?
|
| Koni 'Classic' dampers all round |
Red (& adjustable I believe, but I've never bothered as they seem to work fine). |
| 4 pot front brake calipers with |
This is the later +8 specification and were upgraded as the originals were a pain to source. The Plus 8 shares these with the Austin 'Princess'!
|
| Mallory dual point ignition system |
Has given the most problems. the branded capacitor from Mallory seems to have a really short life - the cheap no brand replacement has been on there for years now
|
| Stainless exhaust |
Nice and loud as I changed the rear mufflers for a length of pipe that saved quite a bit of weight. |
| Torque reaction bars |
Didn't notice a difference here, probably don't brake violently enough.
|
| EBC Greenstuff pads & discs |
Effective, yet strangely noisy. sounds like the pads are made from emery cloth. Wheels stay nice & clean despite some spirited drives. I think I might try the 'Redstuff' pads next time |
| Negative camber plates |
I think Morgan still set the cars up for cross ply tires when mine was built. Not convinced about the cross head on TJ now as one wheel was brought from +ve to plumb vertical & the other went -ve as expected (They are all like that sir). |
| Front Suspension |
This all got a rebuild last winter, I fitted a set of hard chrome kingpins with the Mulberry roller bearings & 180lb springs. I am told that this results in lighter steering and suspension that actually works while cornering, but ended up with a terrible case of the Malvern shimmy!
I fitted a steering damper (intended for a Land Rover) and the Malvern shimmy is all cured, with the steering now far smoother than ever before. Paul & I made up a couple of brackets from 2" angle iron and hung it between the bumper iron and the drag link. Not bad for fourteen and a half quid! I'll still be saving up for a rack conversion, mainly because I reckon the steering box will be due another rebuild in a couple of years....

Panhard Rod |
Well, most mods have been at the front so far,
and
the Panhard rod helps locate the axle when cornering hard making my
Morgan handle better. |
